How does Grammarly work?
Step-1: First of all, you need to create your free Grammarly account, and after that, log in to your dashboard. If it’s your first time, Grammarly will give you a quick tour of the tool.
Step-2: Once you complete the tour, in the dashboard, click on the “New Document” option.
Step-3: In there, paste your blog article, essay, or any writing work. A quick pop up will appear asking you to set the context of the writing you want your article to convey. There are several options like the intent, audience, emotion, and style of the writing.
Step-4: After that, you’ll see underlined text with red lines where Grammarly found the errors in the write-up. Check out the image below.
Step-5: As soon as you click on the red underlined words, on the right side of the screen, Grammarly will show you how to correct the error and also explain why did you get the error. This helps you to learn from your mistakes so that you don’t repeat it again.
Step-6: There are several options like “grammar”, “spelling”, “punctuations”, “conventions” available in the free version. If you first want to solve all your spelling errors, click on it, and Grammarly will only show you spelling errors.
Keep in mind the free version of Grammarly is a complete tool in itself. However, if you want to take a step further in improving your writing style, language, and sentence structure, we’d highly recommend you check out the Pro version as it offers you way more advanced options to improve your write up. We’ll talk more about the pro version later in the article.
Instead of pasting the article directly into the editor, if you like, you can also upload the document right from your computer.
And, once you’re done with the editing, you can quickly download the document.

Who should use Grammarly?
Grammarly tool is a god served to anyone and everyone who creates online content in the form of text. It doesn’t matter whether you are a native English speaker or someone whose primary language isn’t English; we all make mistakes while writing, and so we need a tool that helps us recognize the errors.
But if you ask me precisely, Grammarly is a tool built for bloggers, freelance content writers, students, authors, copywriters, business owners, both B2B and B2C. All and all, if you create content professionally, you anyway need Grammarly.
If you’re using it for personal work, the free version is more than enough. But if you’re a professional Blogger or freelance content writer who needs to deliver top-notch content to their clients, you surely need the Pro version of Grammarly to make sure your write up is perfect when it reaches your client.
How to use Grammarly?
Now that you know who should use the tool. Let’s now see how you can use the Grammarly tool effectively in your benefit.
1. As a chrome browser extension
Using Grammarly as a browser extension is one of the best ways to make the most out of this free tool. At the time of writing this article, the Grammarly extension is available in Chrome, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox browsers.
Once you install the Grammarly extension in your browser, the tool will start to scan for grammatical mistakes all across the web. The list also includes Gmail, Yahoo mail, Facebook, Google Docs, WordPress, Blogger, Twitter, and much more.
The best part of the extension is, it detects live errors while you’re writing something. This comes in handy for all the Bloggers and freelance content writers who can directly identify and solve the error instantly.
2. By native apps for Windows and Mac
The other option you have is to use the Grammarly desktop application. Now, there is nothing new in the desktop app of Grammarly. However, to use it on the desktop, you’ll still need an active Internet connection.
3. By Official Website of Grammarly
On certain websites, Grammarly extension is restricted, for example, Quora. So, if you’re answering a question on Quora, you can use the Grammarly website (Grammarly.com) to craft the content, solve the errors, and after that, use it on Quora.
The other advantage is, you can upload the document to proofread, and Grammarly will store the documents on their servers forever.

4. By keyboard apps of Grammarly.com
Grammarly for mobile is a free application which you can download from the Google Play Store. Once you install the plugin, Grammarly will check all the messages you type in real-time, making your messages effective and mistake-free.
You can also select the language preference and change it to American English or British English.
Benefits of using Grammarly
In this section, I’ll tell you why Grammarly is the best online proofreading tool available in the market right now. This is our unbiased review of the Grammarly tool.
1. Ease to use
With the browser extensions, a desktop app, an online website, and as a mobile keyboard, Grammarly can be your partner whenever you write anything online. In other words, the tool is available at your fingertips.
One thing which I loved about Grammarly is that they show all the errors in a red underlined format, which makes it super easy to find out and solve the mistakes in the documents. Plus, you can keep all the documents under one roof on Grammarly’s web server. You may also like to check these email greetings.
2. Selection of language dialect
There’s not a lot of customization features available in Grammarly. Still, one element which we love is tweaking the language dialect between American English, British English, Canadian English, and Australian English, and it’s just mind-blowing. It gives you the ability to write content for a particular set of audience.
On top of that, if Grammarly suggests any changes which you don’t want to implement, you can ignore the suggestions. It comes in handy when sometimes the tool is giving you false ideas. It hardly happens, but still, sometimes it shows the wrong suggestions.
3. Robust plagiarism checker
Okay, so I’m not a big fan of Grammarly’s plagiarism detector because I didn’t find it any useful. Firstly, it scans the entire document in less than 10 seconds, which gives me a signal that it’s not highly accurate. Furthermore, in most cases, you won’t find any plagiarized content. Now for this, there might be two cases, either you write so exceptionally that no content on the Internet matches with your content or either Grammarly plagiarism detector isn’t that powerful. I feel the second one to be true.
The tool accuracy is excellent when you use the free version, which includes suggestions in vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. But, once you upgrade to the premium plans, other features like conventions, fluency is added, which is entirely useless and not highly proficient in what they suggest to you. Don’t think that Grammarly Premium is futile. It is not.
Let me explain:
When you upgrade to Grammarly Premium, you start to get more suggestions in grammar, vocabulary, and punctuations.
So, for example, in the free version, if you’re getting 10 punctuations errors, then at the same time for the same content, you’ll get more maybe 15 or 20 punctuations errors with Grammarly Premium.
5. Editing and feedback
This is a handy feature for anyone who is not good with grammar but wants to improve. When you use the premium version of Grammarly, you receive weekly emails that show you what your top errors of the week plus were, and it also shows you the number of words the software checked in the following week.
Additionally, while proofreading the document, you also get several suggestions on why you are getting the error and how to improve them. However, these suggestions are merely some repeated form of text which comes in every time you make the same mistake. This can be useful for anyone who understands grammar, but for anyone who is not good with grammatical concepts, this feature won’t help much.
When you have a problem while using the tool, you can always contact the Grammarly support team, and they usually respond within 24 hrs.
Most of the time, all your errors get resolved in the Grammarly FAQs or knowledge base page. If not, you can log into your account to create a ticket and address the issue. They’ll help you figure out a working solution for all your problems.
Features of Grammarly Free Version
Here are the features you get with the free version of Grammarly software:
Nonetheless, at times, the tools provide you wrong grammar recommendations that can only make your article worse. Additionally, if you ignore the suggestions, the same error popups again as the page refreshes, this is certainly not a big issue and can be ignored.

2. Spelling checker
I make a lot of spelling mistakes daily while writing articles. Grammarly does a fantastic job of recognizing all the spelling mistakes in the article within a matter of seconds.
You can detect all the spelling mistakes on the right side of the screen, where Grammarly suggests the correct spelling of the words. It’s 99% precise, and you can rely on the tool for this task.
3. Punctuation checker
Even professional writer makes a lot of mistakes in punctuations. If you’re the one who doesn’t know where to use punctuation marks, Grammarly has got your back.
Grammarly detects all the punctuation errors swiftly. So, even if you have just started learning English or don’t have a strong command over English, you can still write grammar proof articles with the help of Grammarly.
This is an excellent feature for a non-English speaker. When you read articles from a native English speaker at times, you might think you’re left out, and your English is nowhere close. Also, while understanding their articles, we often witness several words that we haven’t heard ever in our lives, and for that, we have to use the dictionary. But, with the Grammarly built-in dictionary feature, while reading the article, you can double click on any word, and it will show you the meaning of that word.
Features of Grammarly Premium
Grammarly Premium has its benefits of using, and it comes with some advanced set of features that aren’t available in the free version. Let’s find out what Premium version of Grammarly has to offer us:
1. Plagiarism detector
This feature you exclusively get in the premium version of the software. What it does is, when you write the article and use the plagiarism checker, Grammarly starts to scan more than 16 billion web pages and show you if you have any copied material in your article or not.
2. Advanced grammar checker
This feature is identical to the grammar checker available in the free version. However, there are certain errors like preposition at the end, repetitive use of the same word, unclear antecedent, use of passive voice, and missing verb features are only available in the premium version.
The advanced grammar checker features help your content stand out from the crowd in terms of readability. You may also like this Whitesmoke discount offer.
3. Vocabulary enhancement detector
The advanced vocabulary enhancement feature suggests you new words when you have the same word used many times in your article. Moreover, it also suggests you synonyms for the words you’ve used concerning the context of your article.
I love this feature, but sometimes it becomes frustrating because they suggest weird words for us to edit. If you don’t know proper English, this feature will come in handy to improve the overall structure of your article or essay.
4. Sentence structure modifier
Grammar is all about how you frame your sentences. It might not be a big deal for a native English speaker to frame a perfect sentence, but for a non-native English speaker, it could be a considerable challenge.
Not anymore! Because in the premium version of Grammarly, it suggests the proper structure of a sentence taking you steps apart from your competition.
Pros and Cons of using Grammarly
It is important to differentiate the good and the bad of any tool to know it better. Here’s the one for Grammarly.
|Available in browser extensions, desktop app and on a mobile keyboard.||Plagiarism checker tool is not satisfying.|
|Super easy to use and understand.||Occasionally shows incorrect suggestions.|
|Highly accurate in suggesting errors.||The premium plan is a bit on an expensive side.|
|Highly accurate in suggesting errors.||Doesn’t work on all the websites.|
|Ability to change the language from American English to British English and vice versa.||Aggressive advertising.|
|Real-time grammar checking.||Cannot replace a human proofreader.|
|Perfect for non-native English speakers and newbie writers.|
|Most of the features are available in the free version of the tool.|
|Works with most of the popular applications like MS Office and Google Docs.|
Grammarly Premium vs. Grammarly Free vs. Grammarly Business
Let’s now dive into all the plans that Grammarly offers and figure out which one is right for you. We’ll also cover features in detail so that you don’t miss out on any important things.
|Grammarly Premium||Grammarly Free||Grammarly Business|
|As I mentioned the features in the free and premium version of Grammarly are almost identical. But that’s not all there’s more to it.|
With Grammarly premium, you get advanced checks for article context, grammar, punctuations and sentence structure. Above all this, there’s a plagiarism detector feature that scans over 16 billion web pages and in return shows you if any line of your content is plagiarized or no.
|The free version of Grammarly comes with all the features which are enough for most individuals searching for a free online proofreading tool. Both the free and premium version goes hand in hand when it comes to the features. However, with the premium version, you get more precise grammatical, punctuation and vocabulary suggestions.|
To sum it up, the free version of Grammarly is perfect for bloggers and freelance writers who don’t have a separate budget for proofreading tools.
|The Business plan was recently launched by the company and to be honest there’s nothing special about the Grammarly Business plan.
With the business plan you get user management roles, 24/7 priority email support, centralized account billing and monitor engagement trends.
The Business plan starts at $15/mo (paid annually) and costs $180/yr. If you plan to try the business plan for one month, it will cost you $25/mo.
Grammarly’s frequently asked questions and answers (FAQs):
A majority of the readers have certain questions before buying the software, and here we have answered each of your questions in detail:
Can Grammarly Replace Human Proofreading?
There’s a lot of controversy revolving around this topic, but today in this Grammarly review, I’ll break it down for you.
So, I’ve heard a lot of people boasting about Grammarly that it can easily replace a human proofreader, but to be honest with you, it merely is just not the case.
If you’re writing a blog article, some comments, or posting on Facebook, of course, Grammarly will be useful for you. However, if you’re writing articles for your clients or planning to publish a book online, you need a human proofreader. Because eventually, Grammarly is just a tool, and it cannot ever replace an actual human being.
Also, many times, Grammarly gives you lame suggestions to correct, which are not even errors. On the contrary, if you have an editor, they make sure that nothing goes wrong with the article.
If you read this Grammarly review, you might find it useful, but it cannot replace a work done by a human being. I’d suggest you don’t try to cut costs by not hiring a human proofreader if you plan to publish or book.
Is Grammarly Premium worth it?
Definitely Yes, it is worth it. If you’re a blogger or content creator and don’t have a high budget to hire a full-time editor, Grammarly can be your virtual editor, and for that, paying the price for Grammarly Premium is worth it.
Well, the free version is more than enough, but you only get more enhanced precision of grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure with Grammarly Premium.
Look, I’m not good at grammar, but I have an annual subscription to Grammarly Premium, which makes my articles look amazing here at my website. Plus, when writing is your professional job, more and more people out there are looking at your writing style, always ready to criticize, and Grammarly saves me from this severe problem.
If you’re afraid of making an annual investment in the tool, first try out the free version and learn the tool. Once you’re comfortable using it, you can then upgrade to the annual premium subscription at just $11.66/mo.
What is the Grammarly refund policy?
In this review of Grammarly free and premium, it is our job to cover every aspect of the topic so that you can make the right kind of purchase for your business.
Once you purchase any paid plans from Grammarly, then after you have a seven day time period to use the software. If for any reason, you don’t like the software, you can ask for a full refund, and they refund it with the “no question asked money-back guarantee” policy.
All you need to do is raise a ticket and let them know an appropriate reason for why you didn’t like the software. Within the next 24 hours, you’ll receive a refund email, and you’ll get your money back in 4-7 working business days.
In short, “After purchasing the software, you get a 7-day money-back guarantee.”
What are the issues with Grammarly?
There are a couple of issues with Grammarly, which I’d like to address.
The first issue is while using the free version of the Grammarly tool, they regularly prompt you to upgrade to the premium features. Even after you’re done proofreading the article in the free version of the software, they will still show you suggestions that there are more errors to be solved. Once you click on those errors, you’re asked to upgrade to their paid plans. I know they are doing business, but pushing this hard might not be the right choice as not everyone likes such heavy marketing.
The second issue I have is the pricing of the tool. If you plan to go with a monthly ($29.99/mo) or a quarterly ($19.98/mo) subscription, it becomes expensive. The scenario is different if writing is your bread and butter, you can invest in such tools; however, for a student or newbie bloggers, the pricing is a bit hyped up.
Can Grammarly check plagiarism?
Yes, it can, but only if you buy the Premium plan. Plagiarism checker isn’t available with the free version of the software. Also, if you’re planning to upgrade to Grammarly Premium just because of the plagiarism checker, don’t buy it. Instead, try out Copyscape or Duplichecker.
Will Grammarly work on Mac?
Yes, of course! You can use the free Grammarly extension and use it on Linux, Mac, or Windows. On top of that, you can also visit Grammarly’s official site on your Macbook and paste the document directly on the website.
Can anyone steal my content from Grammarly?
As far as you yourself are using the account, no one can steal the content from your Grammarly account. All your documents are stored on Grammarly’s server, and no one except you can access it.
Will Grammarly work with Google docs?
Fortunately, yes! They were working on the beta model of integrating Grammarly with Google Docs, and recently, they have released the official version of the software, which checks all the text in real-time while writing in the Google Doc.
Can I get a Grammarly Premium account for free?
Yes, it’s possible if you’re a blogger or internet marketer. You can get Grammarly free trial account for 30 days by becoming an affiliate partner of Grammarly.
Does Grammarly work on all websites?
A majority of the website yes it will work. For one out of the hundred sites, it might not work.
Is Grammarly available for Android & iOS?
Yes, you can download the free Grammarly app from Play Store and start using it on your mobile devices.
Will Grammarly work without an internet connection?
No, it can’t. Grammarly is an online grammar checker tool, and it needs Internet access to function.
